    Professor Di Wu (1981.03) is the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Lake and Watershed Safety and a Professor in Environmental Engineering at the Colleague of Resources and Environment, University of Chinese Academy of Science in Chongqing. His research focuses on water pollution control and resource recycling, with an emphasis on the emerging interdisciplinary fields of environmental synthetic communities and AI-driven environmental engineering.

    He studied at the College of Civil Engineering at Hunan University from 2000 to 2004, earning a bachelor’s degree in Water Supply and Drainage Engineering. From 2005 to 2007, he studied at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), obtaining a master’s degree in Municipal Engineering. He pursued his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from 2009 to 2013. From 2014 to 2021, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant professor at HKUST. Between 2021 and 2025, he served as a tenured associate professor at Ghent University (Belgium) and Ghent University Global Campus (South Korea), where he is also the Director of the Centre for Green Chemistry and Environmental Biotechnology. Since 2025, he has joined Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

    He has led research projects funded by the Belgian National Science Foundation (FWO) and the National Research Foundation of Korea projects. He has also directed and served as task leader for Theme-based Research Projects funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council and Key Project funded by the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission. He has published over 150 papers, contributed to 12 Chinese/English books(chapters), and holds 10 authorized patents (both domestic and international). His research has earned two IWA Project Innovation Awards and a Hong Kong Green Innovation Gold Award. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Water Process Engineering and an editorial board member for Environmental Science and Ecotechnology.
